GUIDE AGAINST AI TRACKING

THE OBJECTIVE

Guide Against AI Tracking is a project that develops visual guides for media and content creators from civil society actors.

Our goal is to help content creators understand the threats from AI tracking techniques in the platforms they work with and how to protect the originality of their content against misinformation and moderation. Furthermore, we uncover the data, security, and privacy details of the platform’s information.

The objective is to provide media content creators and web users with practical guidance on how to understand and possibly protect themselves from existing AI tracking techniques. The project is aimed at education and awareness while providing a visual analysis and guide.

THE SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

1. Research the platform specific algorithms, human rules and escalation processes that affect content moderation

2. Content moderation policy synthesis from Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, TikTok and Twitter

3. Research informed content generation for the guides and review of individual security, privacy and tracking features

4. Visual design showing the screen-by-screen steps of each platform to help users with understanding tracking and on-device settings

5. Website design and development & guide publishing

THE OUTCOME

The outcome of this project is a collection of guides that visualize what the platform users and content creators can do to protect themselves. This process is usually logical but doesn’t work in every case, as the algorithmic decisions are case by case depending on platforms and their policy. We touch on the ‘Human rules’ to help better promote free speech, democracy, and activism through understanding how these algorithms work, breaking them down to:

1. The social media community guidelines and their algorithm

2. The content moderation and the data that is monitored

3. How to report content that violates rules

4. How to step-by-step appeal an unrightfully ban
